"Whats this, his car cover?" she snickered. "He's a giant."
"No, you'r just a shrimp." I laughed, and Ashley threw the hoodie at me. She then leaned forward and said, "So, tell me everything!"

First, There Is a River

First, There Is a River

Goodreads:
A family conceals a cruel secret.
Emma Perkins' life appears idyllic. Her husband, Jared, is a hardworking farmer and a dependable neighbor. But Emma knows intimately the brutality prowling beneath her husband's façade. When he sends their children away, Emma's life unravels.
A woman seeks her spirit.
Deep in despair, Emma seeks refuge aboard her uncle's riverboat, the Spirit of the River. She travels through a new world filled with colorful characters: captains, mates, the rich, the working class, moonshiners, prostitutes, and Gage, the Spirit's reclusive engineer. Scarred for life from a riverboat explosion, Gage's insight into heartache draws him to Emma, and as they heal together, they form a deep and unbreakable bond. Emma learns to trust that anything is possible, including reclaiming her children and facing her husband.
A man seeks revenge.
Jared Perkins makes a journey of his own. Determined to bring his wife home and teach her the lesson of her life, Jared secretly follows the Spirit. His rage burns cold as he plans his revenge for everyone on board.
Against the immense power of the river, the journey of the Spirit will change the course of their lives forever.

Tris and Izzie

Tile: Tris & Izzie

Author: Mette Ivie Harrison

 Publisher: Egmont USA

 Realease Date: October 11th 2011

Thank you to NetGalley and Egmont USA!

Summary (Goodreads): A modern retelling of the German fairytale "Tristan and Isolde", Tris and Izzie is about a young witch named Izzie who is dating Mark King, the captain of the basketball team and thinks her life is going swimmingly well. Until -- she makes a love potion for her best friend Brangane and then ends up taking herself accidentally, and falling in love with Tristan, the new guy at school.

Review: I've never heard of the German fairytale before. The reason I picked this book out was the cover, I have a bad habit of that, I judge books by their covers, and to me this book was a little disappointing. I read other books by Mette Ivie Harrison, and liked them. The characters were a little flat, the main character, Izzie, was childish, and whiny. The story was rushed and things in it happened for no apparent reason. The relationship between Tris and Izzie was so abrupt, and the love just happened, all at once, I know a love potion was involved but to me it was too fast.

Love makes you say stupid stuff, though I don't think it technically lowers you'r chances of a scholarship.

Free Friday #1

If anyone has a Nook, every Friday they give away a book. (I don't know if the Kindle has the same thing or not). The deals are only for today and today the free book is...

Barns & Noble:
Twelve-year-old Mack MacAvoy suffers from a serious case of mediumness. Medium looks. Medium grades. Medium parents who barely notice him. With a list of phobias that could make anyone crazy, Mack never would have guessed that he is destined for a more-than-medium life.
And then, one day, something incredibly strange happens to Mack. A three-thousand-year-old man named Grimluk appears in the boys’ bathroom to deliver some startling news: Mack is one of the Magnificent Twelve, called the Magnifica in ancient times, whatever that means. An evil force is on its way, and it’s up to Mack to track down eleven other twelve-year-olds in order to stop it. He must travel across the world to battle the wicked Pale Queen’s dangerous daughter, Ereskigal—also known as Risky. But Risky sounds a little scary, and Mack doesn’t want to be a hero. Will he answer the call?
A laugh-out-loud story filled with excitement and magic, The Magnificent Twelve: The Call is the first book in bestselling author Michael Grant’s hilarious new fantasy adventure series.

{I haven't read any of Michael Grant's book but his Gone series is on my to read list}

From Goodreads:
The rules for a young English woman in 1799 are simple: Do what you're told; stay out of the way; and don't, under any circumstances, ask questions.

But Constance Blackchurch is insatiable, headstrong, and complex; and the quest to find her missing mother is too much to resist...

...as is Alexandre Sans-Nom, the pearl diver who steals her heart, uproots all of her social expectations, and can either ruin or save the family she loves.

This book has been on my shelf for some time now, it sounds good, I just haven't got around to reading it yet, I will though. :)
